A maternity nurse may be an experienced and/or qualified nanny or midwife, who has specialised in caring for newborn babies. Parents who are looking for extra help and support in the first few days at home, particularly, first time parents, may benefit greatly, from the services of a maternity nurse.
Working hours: she will be on duty twenty four hours a day, six days a week and will usually live in. Her role will very from family to family but duties involve helping mum with,caring for the newborn, establishing routine, sterilising bottles, bathing baby, baby's laundry, nursery hygiene and night feeds, offering mum support and advice and helping mum to get started with breast feeding. She will provide overall support and reassurance
Most people employ a maternity nurse for between two and eight weeks after baby is born. Occasionally they may be required for longer periods.
Salary: A maternity nurse can expect to be paid between £550 - £700 per week, depending on how many babies are to be cared for.
Maternity nurses are self-employed.
Overseas Positions - The employer is responsible for all travel and medical insurance and the cost of the return flight.
